Chapter 107 – Stephen James CAUDLE

Stephen James Caudle [107] was born abt. 1680 by all reckoning however no documents have been located to either refute or prove this date.

The consistent oral history of Stephen would have us believe that he emigrated from Scotland to the Virginia colony sometime around 1720 with his his wife, Mary Elizabeth FIELDS [109].  By the telling, Stephen was the progenitor of the Caudle family in America and all the branches can therefore trace their ancestral beginning in America to this single family.  It’s mere conjecture and the evidentiary research of the family’s history reveals a story that is slightly less romantic but nonetheless compelling.

the son of Stephen Caudle [107] and Mary Elizabeth Fields [109].  Given his birth year of 1725, it’s reasonable to deduce that he was about six years old when his parents received a 195 acre tract near Trisvan Cemetery just a bit north of the Nottoway River in what is now Stony Creek, VA.
